Community Based Bigs Become a Big » Community Based Bigs
The Community-Based Program serves children ages 5-15 in our local community. Their backgrounds and personalities are unique, but they all have a need for friendship with a caring adult. We ask our volunteers for an 18 month commitment, and to spend 2-4 hours, 2-4 times a month with the child. Big Brothers are matched with Little Brothers and Big Sisters with Little Sisters, or Little Brothers ages 5-8. This is also a great opportunity for Big Couples and Big Families to be matched with a child. Activities that many matches enjoy are going to the park, walking the dog, going fishing, arts and crafts, making dinner together and many other activities. We have a list of activity ideas here.
Commitment Level: 18 months, 2-4 hours a week, 2-4 times a month

- Application (complete the following 2 steps):
- Click here to complete the application provided on the website, or call BBBSGC at (406) 587-1216.
- Click here to download and print our Preinterview Questionaire
- Three References: We will contact the three people you have provided us with on your application.
- Interview: Once we receive your completed application, our Customer Relations Specialist will call to schedule an appointment for an interview. The interview usually takes about an hour. This is a great opportunity for our Enrollment and Match Specialist (EMS) to learn more about you! They learn why you are volunteering, what you like to do in your spare time, and find out more about your personality, likes, dislikes and preferences, and decide which child would best suit you.
- Auto Insurance, Driver's License & Application Fee: Bring your auto insurance card, driver's license and $10.00 application fee with you to the interview. We will make a copy of your driver's license and auto insurance card for you.
- Matching Process: Once you have completed the enrollment process, your file will be reviewed. We will notify you if you have been accepted/non-accepted into our program. If you have been accepted, we will then contact you to tell you about a potential Little. You are under no obligation to accept the child the agency proposes to you. If you accept, we will contact the Little and the Parent to tell them about you. When all parties agree, we will schedule a match meeting between you, the parent, the child and the Match Support Specialist (MSS.) At that meeting, boundaries, expectations, rules and goals will be discussed. You will then officially be matched, and you can start meeting with your Little Brother or Sister to enjoy activities together!
