Becoming a Little

 Child Requirements & Commitments

  1. Child is between the ages of 5-15.
  2. Child is interviewed by our Enrollment and Matching Specialist.
  3. Child has the willingness and ability to establish and maintain a mentoring relationship.
  4. Child will make a commitment to help the mentoring relationship be successful.

 Parent Requirements & Commitments

  1. Parent completes Little Application.
  2. Parent is interviewed by our Enrollment and Matching Specialist.
  3. Parent has the willingness and ability to support a mentoring relationship.
  4. When child is matched, parent will maintain monthly contact with Match Support Specialist staff.
  5. Parent will make an 18 month commitment to the match.
  6. Parent will complete a Program Outcome Evaluation (POE) on an annual basis.
  7. Parent will help pay for child's activity expenses where possible or encourage the match to participate in low-cost activities.

 The Matching Process

  1. Fill out the online Little Application, or call our office to have them mailed or faxed to you.
  2. There is no guarantee your child will be matched. We cannot predict how soon we can match a child because we are a volunteer-driven agency; if we do not have a volunteer who is compatible, it is more difficult for us to match the child.
  3. We try to make same-gender matches, but so many boys are on the waiting list that we may match boys ages 5-8 with female volunteers. If a parent of a male child 5-8 years old prefers a male volunteer, the child may be on our waiting list for a period of time.
  4. We do not match on a first-come, first-served basis. We match according to a child's compatibility with a volunteer. Compatibility includes parent and child preferences for a volunteer, as well as a volunteer's preferences such as driving distance, similar interests and personalities.
  5. Our Enrollment and Matching Specialist staff will contact the parent when we have a potential match to discuss the volunteer. If you and your child accept the volunteer, an official match meeting is scheduled at our office with the volunteer and Match Support Specialist staff to discuss expectations and goals.
